This award winning gourd is one of my favorite pieces.  I used a large Summer King gourd to produce these animated denizens of the deep.  The Rainbow Trout in Big Bear Lake inspired me.  They are not only colorful, they are graceful and full of life.  I used the gourd like a three dimensional canvas and started sketching.  I changed it numerous times until I found the right mix of motion and elegance.  Obviously, this piece involved extensive cutting and pyrography.  The finishing involved leather dyes, pen and ink, polyurethane (eg gloss, semi-gloss and satin) and resins.  You can almost hear the splash.

This  piece measures 17.5" high with an 18" circumference.
